This is another Actionscript based recursion experiment that generates trees when you click. More work is needed for a completely believable result (some oddly shaped trees appear occasionally) but it’s an interesting beginning point.

This project began as a study of the Fibonacci sequence. In the end it became less specific, although it does move in and out of a sunflower-like arrangement when the angles between circles approach the golden ratio. The piece is intended to be purely perceptual, perhaps invoking some immediate feeling-response as a Rothko painting might, but without obvious “content” dictated by it’s references.

Here’s a quick Actionscript based recursion experiment. The colors are generated entirely randomly, so don’t hold it against me if a terrible combination appears.

Frame of the Mind reflects the way in which experience becomes fractured into discrete segments. The recollection of these fragments creates a sense of dis-ease as the continuity of perception is disturbed. Despite the apparent discord there is a consistency that remains: the persistent flow of experience itself, which is always there, even during the process of memory recollection.

Here are a few photos of my latest installation which was based around the glitchy camera input tests. A video of the project will be posted soon.

These are a few camera input tests for an installation project I am working on. The experiments involve grabbing camera input, taking slices of it, and then re-displaying them at random intervals. Variables control the frequency of sampling, the delay for re-display, and the duration of re-display. You’ll need a camera attached; click “allow” when the security requester pops up.

For this project I had to pick one of several different essays and create a typographic work based on its content. This is the result. Find the instances of the word “God” in the text (just the normal sized, non-treated text) and click on them. As they are removed from the text the word Godless becomes more prominent and the audio begins to distort. I think its a little buggy and I probably didn’t get all of the “God” instances, but you should be able to get the idea of what I was going for…

A generative audio/visual piece coded in Actionscript and projected onto a custom-made floor. Honorable mention in the Maine College of Art Merit show.
